RACA x BSC Metamon Game Airdrop: How It Worked and What You Missed
Jul, 11 2025
What Was the RACA x BSC Metamon Airdrop?
The RACA x BSC Metamon airdrop was a targeted reward program launched by Radio Caca in October 2022 to boost participation in its Metamon play-to-earn game on the BNB Smart Chain. Unlike typical token giveaways, this airdrop didn’t just hand out free RACA tokens-it tied rewards directly to ownership of specific NFTs and enforced strict rules to prevent manipulation. If you held a Metamon NFT or a Prime Badge before the snapshot, you got paid. If you listed your NFT on a marketplace even briefly? You got nothing.
Who Got Rewarded and How Much?
The airdrop had three clear tiers based on what kind of Metamon NFT you owned:
- Metamon Prime Badge (MPB) holders received 200,000 $RACA tokens each.
- Every Metamon NFT owner (including old, new, and Rare variants) got 20,000 $RACA tokens.
- All eligible NFT holders also received a free Potion NFT-a rare in-game item that boosted Metamon stats during battles.
These weren’t small numbers. With over 500,000 Metamon NFTs in circulation at the time, the total RACA distribution exceeded 10 billion tokens. But here’s the catch: the value of RACA was around $0.00004455 in October 2022. That means 20,000 RACA was worth about $0.89. The 200,000 RACA for Prime Badge holders? Roughly $8.90. The real value wasn’t in the token amount-it was in the Potion NFT and access to the game’s economy.
The No-Marketplace Rule: Why So Many Missed Out
The most controversial part of the airdrop? You couldn’t list your Metamon NFT on any marketplace-like OpenSea, LooksRare, or even RACA’s own NFT store-before the snapshot. The system checked wallet balances at block height 15,876,432 on October 10, 2022. If your NFT was listed for sale, even for two hours, you were disqualified.
According to Reddit user feedback and RACA’s own support logs, 35% of people who thought they qualified were rejected because of this rule. One user, u/MetamonMaster, said: “I listed my Metamon to see what it was worth, then unlisted it. I thought that was fine. Turns out, the system logged it anyway.”
This rule was designed to prevent “flipping”-buying NFTs just to claim the airdrop and then selling them. But it also punished casual owners who didn’t understand how blockchain snapshots work. Wallets need to be connected to the RACA system, and NFTs need to be in non-custodial wallets (like MetaMask), not on exchanges. Many users lost out because they kept their NFTs on Binance or KuCoin, which don’t allow direct access to the snapshot.
The Potion NFT: The Hidden Gem
While everyone focused on the RACA tokens, the Potion NFT turned out to be the most valuable part of the airdrop. Unlike tokens, which could be sold immediately, the Potion NFT had a direct, functional use inside the Metamon game. It increased your Metamon’s attack, defense, or speed during battles, giving players a real edge in the P2EN (Play-to-Earn NFTs) economy.
On Reddit’s r/CryptoAirdrops, 78% of participants who received the Potion NFT said they kept playing because of it. One user, u/NFT_Guru, wrote: “I got 20,000 RACA and a Potion. I sold the RACA for gas money. The Potion? I still use it every week. That’s the real reward.”
The Potion NFT was non-transferable at first, meaning you couldn’t sell it. Later, RACA opened up limited trading, but only for players who had completed certain in-game milestones. This design encouraged long-term engagement instead of quick cash-outs.
How the Airdrop Was Technically Executed
The airdrop used standard ERC-721 smart contract logic, which is common for NFTs on BNB Smart Chain. The system took a snapshot of all wallets holding eligible Metamon NFTs. It then verified that those NFTs weren’t listed on any marketplace by checking on-chain sale events. If a sale event was detected-even if the listing was canceled-the wallet was excluded.
The distribution happened automatically on October 12, 2022, at 16:00 UTC. No action was needed from users. Tokens and Potion NFTs appeared directly in their wallets. RACA’s team provided step-by-step guides in 20+ languages, and their support team responded to tickets in under 5 hours on average-much faster than the industry norm.
Still, 28% of users reported issues connecting their wallets. Common problems included:
- Using the wrong network (Ethereum instead of BNB Smart Chain)
- Having multiple wallets and not knowing which one held the NFT
- Not having enough BNB for gas fees to claim the airdrop
How RACA Stands Out in the Metaverse Space
RACA isn’t just another metaverse project. It combines three things most others don’t: a playable NFT game (Metamon), a 3D virtual world (United States of Mars), and a thriving NFT marketplace. While Decentraland focuses on virtual land and The Sandbox leans into user-generated content, RACA built a game-first ecosystem where players earn NFTs through play, not just buy them.
By April 2022, Metamon had already recorded 1.2 billion battles. That’s more than most blockchain games see in a year. The game’s economy was already self-sustaining: players spent RACA to upgrade their Metamons, traded Potion NFTs, and competed in tournaments with real rewards.
RACA’s NFT marketplace generated $142 million in sales in 2021 alone. That’s more than most crypto art projects. But the token’s low price ($0.00004455) made it hard to attract serious investors. Critics like David Kim from OKX Blockdream Ventures pointed out that while the airdrop felt generous in token count, the USD value was too small to matter for most people.
What Happened After the Airdrop?
The Metamon airdrop was just the beginning. RACA followed up with the RACA x BSC MVBIII September Star Airdrop in 2023, targeting users who had participated in earlier events. They also began preparing for their own Layer-1 blockchain, expected to launch in Q2 2024. This move would reduce reliance on BNB Smart Chain and lower transaction fees.
But the real test wasn’t the airdrop-it was retention. Only 37% of play-to-earn projects keep users engaged past 18 months, according to Messari. Metamon’s “Lost World” update in late 2023 added a new challenge mode where high-level Metamons (Lv60+) could be deposited to unlock rare rewards. That’s a sign RACA is trying to shift from airdrop-driven hype to a real game economy.
Should You Still Care About RACA Today?
As of November 2025, the original Metamon airdrop is long over. You can’t claim those tokens anymore. But the lessons are still relevant.
If you’re thinking about joining a new airdrop:
- Check if NFTs must be held in non-custodial wallets.
- Don’t list your NFTs on marketplaces before the snapshot.
- Look beyond token amounts-what’s the utility of the NFTs or in-game items?
- Verify the project’s long-term roadmap. Is there a game, or just a token?
RACA’s airdrop wasn’t the biggest in crypto history, but it was one of the most thoughtfully designed. It didn’t just give away free money-it built a community of players who stayed because the game actually worked.
